10 Tips for Buying a Double Jogging Stroller

By: Jen Stoddart If you are a mom or dad who loves to jog or power walk - and you have two young children - it's not easy to get you exercise sessions. Now might be the time for you to consider a double jogging stroller for your family.

A double jogger will be lightweight and have a fixed front wheel. The fixed front wheel is ideal for jogging, because it provides the stability and straight tracking that you need.

There are lots of choices on the market - so deciding which one is best for you is not always easy. Here is a list of 10 things to consider when looking to purchase one.

1. Easy to jog and provide a smooth ride - look for a double jogging stroller that has large 16 inch back wheels and has a large 16 inch fixed front wheel. The large 16 inch wheels will make it easier to jog and will provide baby with a smoother ride.

2. Make sure your kids will be comfortable. The seats in the stroller should be easily reclined - and the seats should be padded and constructed of fabric that is breathable and is a light-weight material.

3. Flexible Handlebar. You want to make sure that the stroller is easy to push for anyone - no matter what their height is. If you think that people of differing heights will be regularly using the stroller to walk or jog, then look for one that has a flexible-height handlebar. Being able to adjust the height of the handlebar anywhere from 39" to 43" will make it comfortable for anyone of any height to push the stroller.

4. Lighter the better. When you walk or run with your stroller it is obvious that the lighter it is the easier it will to push. But you will also want to factor in that in all likelihood you will be putting your stroller in and out of the trunk of your car - and it will be easier with a lighter stroller.

5. Long lasting. Today's strollers will either be welded aluminium frame construction or will be constructed of metal tubes connected with plastic joints. Look for one that has a welded aluminium frame - it will be more expensive, but they are noticeably lighter and much sturdier than strollers with metal tube frames. Also, look for a stroller that has wheels made of alloy - they are lighter and rust-resistant - compared to steel wheels.

6. Safety - the most important aspect of your purchase is acquiring a baby jogging stroller that is safe for your babies. Look for one that has a five-point harness for each of the seats. This will keep your children secure in the stroller when out for a walk or a jog.

7. Brakes. Look for a stroller that has both a hand-brake which will be located on the handlebar and a foot brake which will be a bar positioned near the rear wheels. The hand-brake is use to stop the stroller while in motion and operate just like a bicycle brake. The foot brake is used to hold the stroller in place when you are stopped.

8. Sun Protection - one of the most important aspects to look for is whether there is a sun canopy that has the flexibility to provide shade to both of your babies no matter what the angle of the sun. Look for a twin stroller that has independent sun canopies for each child seat, and the canopies should be fully flexible so they can be positioned so that the sun can always be blocked from the baby.

9. Folds easily. You will want to fold the stroller to store it away or to put it into your car. Make sure that you can fold it yourself since in many situations you will be on your own with your kids. It should fold to a small enough size so that it can fit into your car's trunk. Also, look for a stroller that has easy pop-off and pop-on wheels so that it can be even smaller when folded down.

10. Stroller capacity. You'll want a stroller that can hold up to 100 pounds of passenger weight. If not you run the risk of not getting enough use out of the investment you made in the stroller.
