4 Gout Relief Ideas - Get Rid of Your Gout Pain Instantly

- Take a pill with ibuprofen or naproxen.

When suffering from gout in the beginning, the attack will last for about a week if left untreated. Also try naproxen drugs like Aleve. However, you'll want to avoid taking aspirin at all, because it'll likely prolong or cause more pain by stopping the elimination out of the body of the uric acid causing the pain in the first place.

- You can try wrapping your joint in ice.

If your gout isn't so bad that you just can't stand the pain, you can try soothing the joint and numbing the pain by wrapping ice in a towel and holding it against the joint for a few minutes (repeat as necessary). This will also help reduce the swelling. To be prepared for future breakouts and get immediate gout relief, you may want to keep a cold compress in your freezer so you'll have it ready.

- Soothe your joints with warmth instead.

Some sufferers have said that placing something warm/hot against their painful joints helps them find gout relief and get to sleep at night. To try this, it's easiest to wrap a warm towel around the affected area.

- Drink plenty of water.

Drinking 6-8 glasses of water every day will help excrete the uric acid in your joints and aid your kidneys in eliminating excessive amounts through the urine. Or you can drink herbal tea or fruit juices in place of some of the glasses of water, if the thought of all that water per day seems impossible to you. But try to gradually increase the amount of water to more than what you're drinking currently, and still try to keep the water to fruit juice/herbal tea ratio in favor of the water.
