5 Little Known Ways To Deal With Body Acne

By: Nathan James Acne is most often considered a facial problem, primarily because this is the most visible form. It can affect other parts of the body, however, such as the neck, back, buttocks and shoulders. These "hidden" areas can be quite painful when they are affected by acne.

Acne is caused by oil, dead cells and other toxins that block the pores in the skin, resulting in pimples, inflammation and swelling.

A large hormonal imbalance can increase the severity of the acne breakouts, as can the effects of stress on the immune and endocrinal systems. When the acne is more severe, lesions can take longer to heal and the skin can become more vulnerable to future acne problems.

Much like facial acne, body acne can lead to scarring. This can be even more pronounced in some cases, because the affected areas may be more prone to being irritated by everyday activities.

There are a number of treatments for acne, with no single treatment working best for everyone. The best advice is to consult with a doctor or dermatologist to get a thorough diagnosis and the most effective treatment plan for your particular situation.

There are several things you can do to lessen the severity of body acne, however:

  • Avoid wearing tight clothes that can irritate the skin that is affected by acne.
  • Avoid wearing a backpack or carrying a purse or laptop bag on your shoulder, if the shoulder area is affected by acne.
  • Avoid jewelry that could irritate the skin in any affected areas.
  • Use a soft towel after a bath or shower, and pat the skin dry rather than rubbing it.
  • Keep bedding, pillowcases and other items used everyday clean to minimize the risk of re-infection.

Finally, a healthy diet can also help minimize body acne. It will help to boost the immune system and can improve your skin tone to help combat acne.
