A Pampering Massage to Lose Your Stress

Before stress takes over your life, take a break to care for yourself. Head to your local spa and treat yourself to a massage that will allow you to put a halt to your hectic pace.

Schedule in some time to pay a visit to your local health spa or massage therapist and find out what they can offer in the way of some pampering stress relief. There are several different kinds of massage, and you'll want to find out which one is best for you in terms of your specific physical problems, your budget and the amount of time you can set aside for the procedure.

What Kind of Massage is Best?

Here's a look at some of the massage therapy techniques available, and what they can do for you. Take your pick, and enjoy!

1. Hot Stone Massage: This is a particularly good procedure if you suffer from aches and pains in your muscles. The massage therapist will place special heated stones on your body in key locations. The heat from the stones relaxes tense muscles, and you'll find you have greater mobility and flexibility, and less pain. The slow application of pressure and some friction by the therapist will further loosen you up.

2. Shiatsu. Originating in Japan, this technique is similar in some ways to acupuncture and acupressure, but has been practiced for much longer than either of those treatments. Shiatsu therapy corrects imbalances in your body by using the palms and fingers to apply pressure to key locations. It's perfect for treating muscle stiffness and headaches caused by stress. It improves your circulation and helps to promote and maintain good health.

3. Aromatherapy. This treatment utilizes the scents of certain essential oils to enhance your sense of relaxation. Lavender is a popular choice, because it is believed to relax you and calm your mind. The therapist will apply the oil to your body and massage it in to help those tense muscles unwind. You'll be drowsy during the massage, but will feel re-energized afterwards. This type of massage is a favored treatment for emotional stress.

4. Thai Massage. This form of massage involves the use of more pressure than does shiatsu. It's good for reducing stress and improving your flexibility and range of motion. It's an interesting technique involving stretching your body into yoga-like positions. However, there's no exertion involved, since the therapist gently moves your body from one posture to another.

Choosing the massage that fits your needs is your first step to stress relief. If you don't take care of yourself, you won't be able to take care of others who are depending on you.
