A Recipe for Success in 4 Easy Steps

By: Kurt Schmitt. Here's a simple recipe for success that you can use to accomplish your objectives in work or in life. After doing this a few times, you won't even know you're using it. It'll just work. I started using this formula many years ago.

I did not come up with this formula myself. I learned it from Tony Robbins' "Personal Power II" home audio series. In a nutshell, it's a four step formula for achieving results in any area of your life.

The great thing about this is that it is subject matter neutral. The formula doesn't care what you want to achieve, but there are some guidelines. The hardest part of this may be that any doubts or fears you have based on beliefs and experiences need to be put aside if this is going to work for you.

You'll need to put all that behind you and take action regardless of doubt or fear. This is known as "getting out of your own way."

If after reviewing this formula, it seems simple to you, that's because it is. Part of the reason it works is because it's simple.

Many people think that you have to work hard to get ahead, and therefore something that seems too easy doesn't have much value. Don't confuse the simple power of this system for something that seems too easy. Passing an electric current through a wire is simple, but inventing the light bulb was no easy task.

Motivation initiates action. Motivation, however, is easily lost and needs to be renewed. Following the guidelines in this recipe will help you to keep on track and renew your motivation. Below is the formula for success that works to get you what you want.

1. Decide on what you want - Many people do not do this! Instead, they wish away their time. You must decide on what you want your outcome to be. Let's say you need to buy some milk. Imagine getting in your car and driving down random roads, with no particular destination in mind. Not the most efficient way to go buy some milk. What are the odds that you'll end up where you want to go if you don't have a destination in mind? Slim to none.

2. Take action -- Now that you know where you want to go, you have to take action in order to get there. This requires you to make a second decision to take immediate action on your first decision. Make a commitment to taking those actions that will move you toward your desired outcome. In order to do this, you must put aside all fear and doubt. Like Nike, "just do it."

3. Track progress -- Check your progress and notice what is working and what is not. Do more of what is working, and change or drop what is not working. Keep fine tuning your actions until you achieve the results you want.

4. Use modeling -- Modeling is essentially copying what works. If you model those who are already successful, you'll accelerate your progress and achieve results you otherwise would not. Not only is it easier to copy what someone else has already done, but you can improve upon it little by little.

I invite you to try this simple recipe for success for the next 30 days. Once you see that it works, please share it with a friend.
