Access Neighborhood Sex Offender Records

By: Jed Elaine Sex crimes are not only downright despicable in their own right but they are often accomplice to other deeper-rooted problems too. Josep Fritzl of the disgraceful Austrian incest case proves that. Most of us would be hard-pressed to imagine anything worse. The signs were always there yet Elisabeth, the victimized daughter had to go through living hell for 24 years.

As we brace ourselves for another outrage over the sentence on Fritzl, our own backyard needs a look itself. A single sex offender is a single sex offender too many. In the light of the Austrian incest case, we must crank it up on these perverts. How are the Sex Offender Management and Treatment programs coming along? Do we need additional laws, regulations, controls and programs or a beef-up on our current system would suffice?

The fundamental elements to deal with sex offenders have actually long been in place here in the US. We need to help them stay out of trouble, by force if that's what it takes. Convicted sex offenders must register with the authorities for tracking and public information purposes. They are also restricted in where they live, their occupation, volunteer work, places to go and activities to engage in. In short, everything about them is under compulsory surveillance and their records are mostly lifetime because these people are prone to relapse, and relapse they do indeed.

The recidivism rate of released Sex Offenders is also disturbingly high. They average 3% within 3 years of release over different states and is even worse (up to 20%) for those which are still on probation or parole. What's tricky about them is that they don't always display tell-tale signs. Often, their crimes are premeditated and carefully planned out too. In short, we just have to watch out for them.

The first step to avoid running into sex offenders is to find out who they are. Fortunately, we can easily pick them out by conducting routine Sex Offender Searches in the neighborhood of our residence, work, schools and other places of travel. We can also run through Public Sex Offender Registries and conduct specific individual Sex Offender Record Checks any time we smell a rat.

With the advent of internet and computerization, Sex Offender Records are easily accessed. As a result, they are commonly used in both formal and social environments such as employment screening, volunteer assessment, police work, court cases and checking on nannies, tenants, friends and relatives. All that's needed is a full name and address or another form of identification like ID or Social Security Number.

Sex Offender Records can be obtained free-of-charge (FOC) from government or other public-service agencies. Another version is the fee-based commercial record providers which are proving to be the preferred option. Unlike the former, there's virtually no waiting time. Competition is immense in the industry so fees are very reasonable and the records they produce come with professional standards and plug-and-play readiness.
