Blood Pressure Should Be Kept Under Control

A recent study was performed to see how much of a difference this made in the blood pressure of older patients. The results of the testing were so impressive that the study was cut short, and each of the participants was payed.

Of all the 3,845 people who took part in this study, the average blood pressure was 173/91. This study included 195 hospitals in 13 various countries.

During the four-year study period, there was a drastic drop in mortality rates. This was due to the decline in mean blood pressure from 173/91 to 150/61. The overall death rate declined by 21 percent, while deaths attributed to cardiovascular diseases fell by 23 percent. Thirty percent fewer strokes were recorded, and of the strokes that did occur, the death rate fell by 39 percent. Most significant, however, was the 64 percent reduction in deaths due to heart failure. This was the largest decline in mortality rates noted in the study.

The study portends that ones lifespan can be extended through keeping blood pressure within a healthy range. Keeping ones blood pressure within healthy limits should be a priority for all patients to maintain good health in general.

The healthy blood pressure can be maintained by various ways. Some of the established methods to maintain your blood pressure in under limit where it should be are mentioned below:

* Regular exercise and increasing physical activity in general. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator or taking more walks when possible. Joining a gym and working with a trainer can be beneficial as well. Just making small changes in your daily routine to incorporate more physical activity will bring about benefits. You will be surprised at the differences you begin to feel with these small changes.

* Ban smoking. You should give up smoking at once, if you have the habit of smoking. Just by inhaling tobacco smoke, it is possible for a person to die early. Tobacco smoke is poisonous and causes respiratory problems, which may kill you. Your habit of smoking will be portrayed in your blood pressure.

* Avoid processed 'junk' foods. These processed foods are filled with chemicals and preservatives that your body was never meant to consume. It all adds up quickly and can cause serious health problems after a period of time. Instead, change your focus to healthier alternatives such a fresh fruits and vegetables. You will soon begin to feel much better and wonder why you ever ate so much junk food.

These three steps are merely the start. Your body is an equilibrated unit and should be maintained under equilibrium. If you make your health a priority you will survive longer than those who don't care about health.
