Breathing: the fuel that empowers us

By: Mary Johnson Everybody knows the importance of oxygen and fresh air. Actually, nothing is more important for humans than oxygen, without it you would simply die. Everybody knows that.  Still, if you ask people about the importance or breathing and how to breathe well, hardly anyone comes up with the right answer. Which is very strange as breathing properly is fundamental to a long and healthy life. The importance of breathing.

The foundation of health is a healthy bloodstream, the system that transports oxygen and nutrients to all cells of your body. If your health system works properly, you likely to live long and happy. Guess what the control button for that system is? Breathing! It's the way you fully oxygenate the body and thus stimulate the electrical process of each and every cell. The fuel that empowers us.
Let's take a closer look at how the body works. Breathing not only controls the oxygenation of the cells. It also controls the flow of lymph fluid. The lymph system is often referred to as the body's sewage system. Every cell in our body is surrounded by lymph fluid. This fluid delivers oxygen and nutrients from the blood to the body cells and transports dead cells, blood proteins and toxic wastes from the cells to the blood. You might wonder how important this system is to you and your health? If it was totally shut down for 24 hours, you would be dead as a result of trapped blood proteins and excess fluid around the cells. And here is why breathing is so important; deep breathing activates the lymph system.
The bloodstream has a pump, your heart. But the lymph system doesn't have one. The only way lymph works is through breathing, the only way to create a healthy and effective lymph and immune system is by breathing deeply the right way.
Besides the fact that it creates health it also creates a moment of relaxation. Stop for 5 to 10 minutes to concentrate on your breathing only. Breathe in slowly and deeply by your noise. Make sure you feel your stomach fills up with air and you are completely relaxed. Hold your breath for a couple of seconds before exhale slowly but thoroughly through your mouth.
The importance of breathing is really highly underestimated and that reflects on the mental balance of body and mind with a lot of people. Breathing exercises are easy to do and can be done everywhere at any time of the day.
