There are specific river classes for each skill level when it comes to white water rafting. For families and first timers it is advisable to go on a river that is either class 1 or 2. Rivers under this class have little rough areas and will not require a lot of maneuvering.

With the right paddling skills you can take rivers that have more waves and even have drops in them. These types of rivers belong to classes 3 and 4. These will require the basic paddling skills. Those who have a lot of experience may try out class 5 rivers which will need a lot of maneuvering skills.

Some of the best rivers for white water rafting can be found in California, namely the South Fork American River in California, Kaweah River and Tuolumne River. All these rivers differ in the in classes and adventure. There will surely be something for everyone.

The South Fork American River is the friendliest among the three rivers, which is no wonder why it is the most boated river. The Kaweah River on the other hand runs in the class 4 category and provides an exciting ride. The Tuolumne River will provide both excitement and a scenic view.

When you've settled on all the details you're sure to get packing. Don't forget to bring along sun block and moisturizer, since the combination of sun, wind and water may not be very friendly on your skin. Make sure that the clothes you bring are light and will dry easily if they get wet.
