Cast Iron Baseboard Heating

By: Thomas MacIntosh If you are living in one of those areas when it gets exceptionally chilly during the winter, then surviving without a heating system is almost unimaginable. So, if you are getting a new house for yourself and you will be shifting before the winter sets in, you must decide on the kind of heating system you will require.

There are basically three options you have:

1. Electric heating
2. Air heating
3. Water or liquid heating

Of all the different forms of heating, the liquid heating option has been the most popular. Technically known as hydronic systems, they are compatible with any form of liquid, from oil to water. They are more cost effective compared to the electric floor heating system and the floor heat is also retained for a considerable period of time.

Cast Iron Baseboards use the technique of hydronic heating. It follows the basic standards of good heating engineering. When you heat up the floor it also becomes important for the walls to remain cool as they are more exposed to the outside chill. Cast iron baseboards help to keep the walls warm along with the floor. So what you get is complete comfort and a cozy interior even during the harshest of winters.

Many Cast Iron Baseboards come with narrow waterways. However, if you are planning to get one for yourself, see to it that the waterways are as broad as possible. Large waterways allow you to store excess heat and keep the rooms warm even when the thermostat turns the system off.

Also remember to check that the Cast Iron Baseboard effectively distributes the heat by disbursing it both horizontally and vertically. This will ensure that there are no cold pockets inside your room and the temperature of the room remains equal throughout.

There are Cast Iron Baseboards which provide convectional heat flow along with radiant heat. These heaters are exceptionally good when it comes to providing balanced heating.

So if you are planning to get yourself a Cast Iron Baseboard make sure that you have done enough research on the product. If you don’t carry the knowledge with you chances are that you will have to settle for something less than you could have got. It always pays to get your homework done, settle on a particular product or two and then go to the retailer for the product. It also makes sense to shop around as then you will get a proper estimate of the price.
