Ceramic tiles cleaner: Know the tits and bits

By: Thomas MacIntosh Ceramic tiles on floor, ceramic tiles on wall and ceramic tiles as an integral part of the latest home décor carry a great impression and style. At the same time you have to take pretty well care of the ceramic tiles to hold the remarkable shine and sophistication for long. You have to take care of the ceramic tiles with conscious effort or else things would easily turn drab and the tiles will lose their attraction.

There is nothing that difficult in maintaining ceramic tiles. But you have to know about the cleaning techniques and the cleaning accessories and solutions. But before that you must also know the composition of ceramic tiles. How is this helpful? In other words, why do you need to know about what ceramic tile contains? The reason is very simple. If you are aware of the raw materials you can detect what would be suitable and what not to keep the ceramic tiles clean and tidy.

Basic composition of ceramic tiles

Silicates form the key ingredient in the composition of ceramic tiles. Silicate is found in clay and that particular clay is used in the making of ceramic tiles. The other raw materials are fine sand and cement with silicon and commonly known as grout that functions as a compositor of holding the tiles together. The silicate content clay is baked in the furnace to give shape to the ceramic tiles. Popularly as glazed and unglazed forms these tiles are used for flooring and so on.

Proper care through correct cleaning ways

• Use simple water for regular cleaning. First of all wipe the ceramic tiles with a clean cloth dipped into water. This will clear all the dirt. But the moisture content in the water will again become home for the gathering of dust and dirt. To avoid this, just after wiping with water, the floor has to be dried down. Take the help of a dry sponge and once again wipe the area. You can even get your image reflection on the floor.
• At least thrice a week, use mild detergent solution to sweep the ceramic tiles. This protects the tiles and the grout from losing the color and shine. What should the detergent solution actually contain? The composition will be 1:4 where in one gallon of water just one part will be the detergent.
• Conduct a thorough cleaning once in a fortnight. This process is a three layered process. The first thing is wiping the tiles with chlorine bleach solution. This will remove all embedded stains and patches from the tiles. Next use the detergent solution to wipe out every bit of dirt and finally carry on the drying process with the sponge that would soak all water.
• After every wiping out process, spray some good quality retardant that would protect the tiles from microbes and germs.

Now you can provide a safe environment to your family in every respect. Thus maintenance of ceramic tiles is as important as any other thing for a homemaker.
