Dieting for Weightloss

By: Unnikrishnan Nedungadi People who lose weight quickly by "crash" dieting or other extreme measures usually gain it all back or gain even more of the pounds that they lost because they haven't permanently changed their eating habits. As a general rule though, most nutrition experts recommend never going below 1,000-1,200 calories a day if you're dieting on your own. This explains why it's crucial to diet sensibly with a suitable, rather than a very low calorie intake so that you lose fat rather than muscle.

Losing weight

Weight loss and weight management should be enduring and geared for long-term benefits. Weight loss is plainly losing muscle, water and fat. Certain medications such as contraceptive pills, HRT, and steroids directly affect an individuals weight and is often regarded as a cause for weight gains.

The process of gaining the lost weight is also known as weight cycling and is commonly experienced by the weight loss dieters. These dieters are at an increased risk of developing gallstones.

Weight reduction diets include:

*Medically supervised diets

*Independant dieting

*Commercial diet organizations and centers

*Behavioral modification and weight loss programs and support

*Balanced diets, low calorie diets, hospital diets, diets supported by food supplements, fad diets, diets supplemented by drugs, packaged food.

Diets

Dietary fiber is another food component which influences health even though it is not actually absorbed into the body. Diets affect the "energy in" component of the energy balance by limiting or altering the distribution of foods. Diets can be boring and there's always a temptation to return to old habits. Diets do not lead to sustained weight loss or health benefits for the majority of people. Diets cannot help but fail because bodies were never meant to engage in repetitive cycles of dramatic weight loss and weight gain.

Diets lacking in essential nutrition, fewer than recommended calories could be risky and dangerous for kids. Diets can be used to maintain the body weight and some of the athletes gain weight in the form of muscles, although dieting is considered primarily for losing weight.

A variety of diets are available. But all weight loss diets limits the food intake in order to reduce the body weight. American football players on the other hand, follows a diet regimen to increase their body weight to give them the advantage over the other players in the field.

Individuals who are underweight, such as those recovering from anorexia nervosa or starvation, may adopt weight-gain diets which, unlike those of athletes, have the goal of restoring normal levels of body fat, muscle, and stores of essential nutrients.

Dieting

Studies indicate that dieting may affect the dieter's psychology and ushers in a childhood state. Dieting causes weight gain in some dieters, and as a result this may prove to be a failure in sustaining the lost weight.

Dieting can cause the following side effects:

* It may make you feel hungry and preoccupied with food (thinking about it all the time)

*Tired and unfocused

*Lost and lacking motivation

*Cold and dizzy

*Wanting to taste the given up foods

Dieting is a stress on the body especially during pregnancy which causes hormone changes in the dieter. This can affect the child during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Doctors however, recommend dieting before pregnancy to lose weight. During dieting, especially with strong hypo caloric diets, the body is deprived of essential nutrients, like minerals and vitamins, most noticably vitamin B.

Dieting seems not to solve the problem of being over weight. It rather adds to the woes of the dieters. The dieting cycle seems to be never ending, as the dieters are hooked on to the dieting indusrty and the varied dieting products. These dieters are at a greater risk of catching type-2 diabetes than those who are overweight and are not on any diet regimen.

As a general rule, until you have seen your GP, I suggest you stop thinking about dieting and losing weight and instead concentrate on eating a healthy, balanced diet that contains a wide range of foods. Did you know that by far, the biggest secret to losing fat is detoxifying your colon and liver?

Eating smart and healthy is the way to happy dieting.
