Doors shape the decor of your home

By: David Raiburn Doors are an essential part of your home. It is the first thing that attracts the attention of the visitors, when they visit your home or office. Doors reflect your personality. A neat, well trimmed door reveals the qualities of the home maker. The door should be fashioned according to the decor of your home. Nowadays, we have an array of doors to choose from, that will match our architecture and the interior decoration. Dutch doors are known for their classic look, while old heavy wooden doors, with ornate trim and big brass knobs are still in vogue. You even have the choice of clubbing the country style and old world style. One of the most popular doors today is the simple, elegant door, with a little trim to make it look smart and efficient.

Get a little country style: Dutch doors originated in the 1600s in the Netherlands and are named after their country of origination. Dutch doors are a unique design of door. You do not see them very often in new homes but can still find them in older country homes. You can also have one of these special doors installed in your home or outbuilding to add a country look to your home.

The Dutch door is made up of a door divided into two, a top half and a bottom half. Either the top or the bottom half can be opened or when they are latched together can be used like a standard door.

In olden times Dutch doors were common as they were used in stables. It was very convenient, as the horse or animal could be kept confined by keeping the bottom portion closed while the top could be left open for ventilation. Other uses included front entryways and interior doors. These doors are still used in barns today.

Unfortunately, in today’s times, new houses are not equipped with Dutch doors, unless they have been specially ordered for. Many people, like to personalize their homes, by attaching Dutch doors, to add an old country look to it. Dutch doors can also be used as back doors, garages and garden doors.

Fascinate your visitors with the classic appeal by installing a classic entrance in your home. Classic doors are generally heavier and are crafted out of hard woods like oak. These doors are very brawny and sturdy and have a very long life. But you must treat this classical beauty so that it can resist harsh weathers and if it is necessary varnish or paint it every 2 or 3 years. You have to bear extra burden of maintenance for your classic wood door but it will pay off by increasing the real estate value of your home.

A modern door is simpler in appearance than other doors with adornment of a simple design. Generally they are made of wood and are painted. You need to paint up these doors every two or three years particularly if your house is located in a place with extreme weather conditions.

Whatever door you choose, remember that it will show your house¡¦s individuality and your visitors will get their first impressions from your entrance door. So always take a little care to not only choose the right door but understand how to maintain it as well. Remember the value of your home and to a certain extent your value is based on the type of doors your home has.
