Facts about Kinky Twists

By: Marquetta Breslin Are you sick of the same old hairstyles? Looking for something new, trendy, and popular? If so, you have found the right place. Kinky twists are great for busy people who want a hairstyle that is easy to maintain. Unlike the ever-so-popular micro braids, kinky twists are not braided.

Thinking about getting kinky twists? Here are some points to keep in mind:

1. Regular hair gel will keep stray hairs from popping out of the twist when the style is finished.

2. It can be difficult to start the twist. You can begin by using a twist, or you can start by cornrowing. To make starting the twist easier, begin with a cornrow. Cornrow down at least once but no more than twice. This will help keep your kinky twist secure at the root.

3. It is very important to understand that kinky twists are made from two separate twists. First, twist the pieces of hair individually; then twist the twisted pieces around each other.

4. To have a finished style that appears fuller, try staggering the parts. Layering the parts one on top of the other will allow the twists to fall on top of the empty part, not on top of another twist.

5. To protect your style while sleeping, wrap your head in a silk scarf just before going to bed. If you don't have a silk scarf, a silk pillowcase will be fine.

Kinky twists flow freely, just like micro braids, and they don't lay on the scalp like cornrows. It is possible to do kinky twists with your natural hair, but if it's not long enough you can add synthetic hair for a more natural look. Either way, from start to finish, kinky twists should take about six to eight hours to complete. Kinky twists can last up to three months with proper care and maintenance.

Securing the ends of your kinky twists will ensure that the twists don't unravel. To make the ends of the twists straight, just dip the ends in boiling water and towel dry. Remember, the water must be at the boiling point, so be careful around the hot water. Using a large plastic jug with a handle is very helpful. Instead of leaving the ends straight, they can also be curled. To curl the ends, roll them with a small rod. Then, dip the ends in the boiling water and towel dry.

Kinky Twists are very easy to care for. To add a little shine, use some oil sheen spray or regular oil sheen. Don't forget to use that silk scarf and wrap up your hair before you go to bed.
