Fat Loss And The Benefits Of Green Tea For Dieting

By: John Whelan According to a recent study supplied by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, green tea not only fights heart disease and cancer but may also fight body fat. It was shown that a bottle of tea fortified with green tea extract produced a higher loss of body fat for people who drank it every day for 3 months compared to others who drank regular oolong tea. This further confirms the benefits of green tea for dieting which is backed up by the following points below.

1. Polyphenols, found in most teas are plant based and have anticancer, antiviral and antioxidant properties. Other capabilities include skin rejuvination and anti-bacterial properties.

2. With antiflammatory characteristics already, catechins in green tea is beneficial for reducing high cholesterol levels. Catechins is a type of polyphenol that is mostly found in green tea with smaller amounts found in black tea.

3. Black tea, oolong tea and green tea come from the Camella Sinesis plant. Before steaming and drying the green tea leaves are the only ones that are not fermented.

4. A test group of 35 Japanese men were studied for the effects of catechins on reducing fat and overall weight loss. Their waist sizes and measurement of body fat were close to the same.

5. The test subjects were split up into 2 groups for a 3 month test. One half drank a bottle of oolong tea per day with 22 milligrams of catechins while the other half drank the same amount of oolong tea fortified with green tea extract and 690 milligrams of catechins.

6. Each group consumed a controlled calorie and fat diet for breakfast and dinner.

7. After three months the group who drank the green tea extract lost 5.9 pounds while the other group dropped 2.9 pounds. The bad cholesterol known as LDL also decreased along with total body weight, waist size and body fat percentage.

8. Steeping time and the amount of tea will vary the amount of catechins in each cup of green tea consumed. The recommended consumption of green tea is 4 cups a day and there are green tea supplements available at your local health food store.

One of the main benefits of green tea for dieting is the prevention of various diseases. It has been proven that body fat may be reduced with green tea extract incorporated in a daily diet regimen.
