Finding the Perfect Flower Girl Dresses

By: Janet Donahue Weddings take place all year long of course - and most need flower girl dresses. The majority of weddings are in the Spring and Summer months; it makes sense - life is in bloom and so is love!

What styles are "in" for flower girl dresses this season?

There are several very "standard" flower girl dress styles that are always appropriate:

- Order dresses from the same manufacturer in the same color at the same time as the bride's maids' dresses to match;

- Shop from store to store for weeks and likely dragging them (and their parents) with you before the wedding but long after the bride's maids dresses have come;

- Settle for whatever is available at the last minute;

- Shop on line, make up your mind and send a message to each family telling them which style and color to order and that they need to get them ordered now;

- Shop on line, use Tell-a-Friend to send the styles you like to the group to vote if you prefer and never have to struggle with "I don't like that!" with the child in a store.

Which styles are the most popular?

The flower-petal filled dress. This is a dress with a sheer skirt that is "filled" with flower petals in the color of your choice. These dresses often come with flower pins for the waistline to coordinate. One very special thing to consider is that you can EASILY change the color of the petals in the skirt by exchanging them for your own unique colors. Any florist can make up a pin for the sash for you, too. Consider combining colors for a really rich, unique look!

The flower-petal filled dress - perfect for tiny flower girls. The petals in the layers of the dress (they often come with a pin-on flower or two, too) reflect the colors of your wedding party on a white or ivory dress (some come in black, too). Get creative by adding other colors to the petals in the skirt to make it perfect for your own unique wedding!

The A-line. This is the class silhouette that is shaped like the capital letter "A" - trim at the top and getting wider to the hemline. This style looks good on every figure type and is suitable for all ages but especially for the older girls. It comes in many variations such as:

We hope this helps you prepare for your perfect wedding day!
