Get Rid Of Acne Blemishes Put Your Best Face Forward

By: Ellen Jones There are millions of people around the world who suffer with acne pimples, commonly referred to by teens as zits. Treatments continue to imporve slowly. A great deal of money is being spent researching this skin condition; in fact many new remedies are proving very effective. Most acne skin care products can be broken down into three main areas:

1. Preventative treatments such as creams and lotions to help cleanse and tone the skin

2. Over-the-counter spot treatments available at any drugstore

3. Prescription only treatments recommended by a dermatologist

General or preventative acne products form a large section of the skin care market; this sector deals with skin creams, lotions and cleansers that can help stop the problem. Many people these days use products like this to maintain their skin; often this is irrespective of whether or not there is a problem condition. Some of these products are designed to act like an acne skin care product and act against the causes of this complaint; they are formulated to reduce and limit the amount of oil in the pores of our skin. Excess oil needs to be stopped from clogging the pores as this oil make it easier for bacteria to grow, exacerbating the condition.

Skin care treatments such as exfoliation skin peels, clean the skin and help control the spread of the condition; most can even be purchased over the Internet in addition to normal outlets. These work towards removing dead skin cells, reducing the possibility of pore-clogging and bacteria development. The growth of the skin care market has allowed even more specialized acne skin care products to be available without the need to visit the doctor. These products have benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as ingredients which cause a bad reaction in the bacterium. these ingredients are used to remove the additional oil in the pores of the skin.

It is often a good idea to start with a product that has lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5 percent) to see how the skin responds; an alternative to this includes products which contain alpha hydroxy acid. It might just be a case of trial and error to find an acne skin care product that works; if finding something that works is proving difficult, your dermatologist should be able to help. On-prescription treatments are prescribed by a dermatologist and can include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical ointment.

Your dermatologist may suggest a minor surgical procedure to remove the contents of pustules; this is not something you should ever attempt yourself. Your doctor may even suggest a course of hormone therapy as a skin care treatment; hormone changes are known to be one cause of acne. There is no longer any reason to despair if you have this skin complaint or are prone to its effects.
