Get Rid of Shaving Irritations

By: Joseph Chanbrawati Shaving is one of the most aggravating grooming tasks performed by both men and women. Most men shave on a daily basis, which can incredibly irritate the skin causing both discomfort and physical marks that can be quite embarrassing. Women also are privy to shaving related issues, as most women shave less frequently than men, but cover a greater surface area. If you are suffering from shaving irritations, look to prevent razor burn, ingrown hairs, and bumps using different techniques and a variety of products.

Among the products for men there are special face washes, after-shave lotions and special creams that promise to prevent any shaving irritation or problem. However, you should be careful while choosing and avoid any lotions, creams, or gels that can potentially irritate your skin.

It is always best to consult your dermatologist before you choose a shaving product that will work with your skin type and prevent shaving irritation. You will need the prescription from your skin specialist to be able to buy certain products to clear up the skin. In addition, your dermatologist will help you understand your particular problem and show you some techniques that can prevent shaving irritations.

Though aftershaves are used by many men they can be quite harmful in the sense they use alcohol which dries up the skin and causes further irritation. So, you should look for aftershaves that contain natural ingredients like Aloe Vera and have a minimum alcohol content to prevent your skin from becoming dry and fragile. Also, you can go in for lotions instead of aftershaves.

The kind of shaving problems women experience include razor burn, painful bumps, or ingrown hairs. All of these problems can be prevented by using the proper techniques or products. For instance, if you apply some type of lubrication like soap, shaving cream, or shaving gel, you will not have razor burns. Similarly, you can prevent cuts and nicks also by using gels instead of soaps which leave the skin dry and cause further irritation.

In order to prevent bumps or ingrown hairs, which are frequently around the bikini area that can be both painful and embarrassing, consider banishing shaving and opting for waxing. When hair is waxed, the entire shaft of hair is removed at the root, preventing tiny stubble from growing underneath the top layer of skin. If you would rather continue shaving, look for a lotion containing a slight analgesic to prevent ingrown hairs.

Laser hair removal is another option for women and men who are sick of constantly shaving and experiencing painful irritation. It zaps the hair follicle and stops any hair production. However, not everyone can afford this expensive treatment. Plus, it takes quite a few visits to the clinic for the procedure to be effective.

Finally, it’s important to stick to the method you use for preventing irritation from shaving to protect your skin and make sure your skin is healthy and properly hydrated.
