Gothic Corset: Medieval Corsets of the Modern World

By: Dark Sith Are you fascinated with the mysterious culture of goth? Perhaps a Gothic corset might pique your interest. It is a type of corset top that has a function very different from a traditional corset. A corset's purpose to lift breasts and reduce waistlines have nothing to do with its Gothic counterpart. Instead, a Gothic corset is just about individualism. It is a fashion symbol that resembles a traditional corset.

A Gothic corset represents what the Gothic culture is all about. It combines a Renaissance and Victorian style, depicted by the lace and ribbons, with themes of darkness and black colors. Gothic corsets are considered fetish costumes that provides the wearer with an elastic fit. The classic look is enhanced by the rich fabric and intricate designs. Ideally, a Gothic corset is paired with a silky sheer-layered skirt. The result is a stunning beauty with a seductive aura that does not conform with society.

Now, Gothic stores sell these kind of tops in small, medium, large, and plus sizes. Some have boning to give the wearer a shapely body, but commercially manufactured Gothic corsets are not tailored fit.

Gothic corsets can come in the form of corset dresses. These dresses usually have slits on its sides which go as high as above the knees or thighs and are usually made of silk or satin. Normally there are chiffons on the breast area to make the breasts look fuller.

Gothic corsets may project gloomy outlook, but that doesn't reduce the allure of the wearer.
