HEPA Air Purifiers Useful Facts

By: Tony Cunningham Many of us look to ways of improving our quality of life. Many choose to buy only organic food and others decide to attend the gym regularly or go out walking each evening. Other popular ways of improving our health include stopping smoking and/or drinking. It hoped, by most of us, that doing healthy things and avoiding all things unhealthy we will become healthier and live longer while having a better quality of life. Quality of life also depends upon how we feel and how happy we are with life in general and the environment around us. One gadget that many folk fail to consider is air purifiers.

HEPA air purifiers are among the best and most useful purifiers available. A HEPA air purifier is the type that you should use if you suffer from allergies. These purifiers are great for hay fever sufferers and those who are allergic to household dust.

Every house has a selection of electronic gadgets these days and my favorite has to be air purifiers. These gadgets suck up air, through a filter and out again. Through this simple process they are able to remove any airborne pollutants in the room in which they are situated.

If you suffer from allergies and you are looking to buy an air purifier then please take a look at the HEPA air purifiers first. This first thing you may notice about this type of purifier is that they are usually more expensive than the ordinary ones but the key thing here is the word 'ordinary'. While ordinary purifiers can be found for around $20 they are nowhere near as effective as the HEPA purifiers so, really, if you went with the ordinary one you would simply be wasting $20.

Of course the cheap HEPA air purifiers only clean small amounts of air and are only really useful when used in a small room or when they are used as a personal air purifier (where it cleans only the air in your immediate vicinity). HEPA air purifiers are available in a massive variety of sizes right up to the huge industrial filters that cost thousands of dollars. Choosing the best air purifier depends on a number of factors. The most obvious influencing factor is the size of the room in which it is to be used. The size of the room will determine the amount of air that needs to be processed. Air purifiers usually increase in price as the amount of air that it can filter increases.

Air purifiers that have HEPA filters remove about 99.97% (virtually all) material (such as pollen) found in the air of 0.3 micrometers or above. As you can see from these figures they are incredibly effective but, sadly, the filters themselves can be very expensive and will, at some time, need to be replaced.

Some of the better purifiers have a clever system to ensure that the expensive filters do not need to be replaced as often. By having a filtration system that first filters the air using cheap filters the machine can ensure that most of the pollutants are removed prior to the second filtration using the HEPA filters. This means that the HEPA filters do not have to work as hard cleaning the air and therefore last much longer saving lots of money in the long term.

I am sure you are beginning to realize that spending your hard earned cash on anything but a HEPA machine would be rather foolish, especially if you have allergies to airborne substances. Other cheaper machines can be great for removing unwanted smells such as tobacco smoke but if you really need to ensure that such things as pollen are removed you really do need the benefits that only a HEPA filter can give.
