How The Professionals Build Body Muscle

By: Chris Channing The sport of building muscle has been around for quite some time now, with science and technology expanding the sport to new heights with each coming decade. But as science reveals more and more facts about muscle building, there is much for beginners to learn. In essence, there are three aspects to keep in mind: proper workout procedure, nutrition, and rest.

The first thing to address is nutrition. Without proper caloric intake and nutrients, there will be very little benefit in even the most rigorous of workout exercises. To fully take advantage of a workout exercise, one must consumer enough carbohydrates and proteins to allow the body to build more muscle. Common foods such as red meat, chicken, beans, and even peanut butter and types of nuts will have sufficient protein values.

Of course with just nutrition and rest, there isn't much of a chance for building muscle! Rigorous muscle building exercises should be performed after a large intake of protein. It is important to keep hydrated in this period, so muscle can be built rather than damaged. Many strength training exercises will include heavy lifting, although a trainer will know the best exercises for such a task.

Sleep may not seem as important as the previous two factors, but it can indeed be more important than either. Only through proper rest can one hope to give one's muscles a chance to relax and grow in the "down time." It is generally considered average for a body builder to obtain around 8 hours worth of sleep, with many body builders even taking naps after training sessions and throughout the day.

There is always time for a good hardy training session, but it should be noted that it is very possible to train too much. Training too much will put unnecessary strain on the muscles being targeted, and this can lead to muscle degradation. This will backtrack results rather than make improvements, and thus, proper rest and relaxation should be observed. If one seems to be waking up with an exhausted feeling each day, it would be a great idea to take a day or two to rest from training.

Also worthy to note is the fact that steroids and other outlawed substances should never be used in order to have a quicker gain. This can lead to legal trouble, not to mention many medical complications as a result of steroid usage or overdosing. Steroids are banned in many sports and competitions, and body building is a sport that is no exception to the rule. Above all else, stay away from steroids and "miracle" drugs.

Closing Comments

There is a lot of enjoyment to be had from the fun sport of body building. But taking it too far or too seriously can take the fun out of it, and instead turn it into a meaningless addiction. Always steer clear from drugs and "miracle" cures that promise large muscle gains with little to no work. Also be sure to talk to a local trainer for more information on how to bulk up the scientific and safe way- without all the health risks and dangers.
