How to Break the Binging Cycle

By: James English One of the single biggest enemies which stop people from achieving their optimum weight and a lifestyle free from guilt is binging. There is always that every once in a while when people seem to get the uncontrollable urge and can't stop themselves from eating and drinking to excess. After binging these people often then slide into the other extreme and purge themselves which can be just as damaging as the initial binging. This cycle of binging and purging causes feeling of guilt and shame. It is these feelings which then contribute to the next binging session. From here it can down spiral into a vicious cycle leading to a life of extremes instead of normal healthy living.
binging refers to the process in which someone eats and drinks large volumes of food or drink even when one is not hungry or thirsty. They often do this because of negative emotions or feelings towards something and they find comfort in the foods they eat. Overeating is a horrible way to try to deal with and manage emotional issues, it will simply bury these issues deeper not to mention cause other problems. These problems will not go away by eating and they cannot be fixed by purging yourself after you binge. Punishing yourself your binging will do nothing to fix the cause of your problems and will not stop future binging. It will only help to reinforce this destructive cycle of indulgence and punishment.
The most important thing you need to do if the above sounds like you is to find out the root cause of what's pushing you into these binging cycles. It is not brought on simply by hunger therefore there must be an underlying emotional problem which is causing you to eat for 3 people. It could be dissatisfaction with another aspect of your life or a reaction to a stressful situation that is causing your binging. Whatever it is it is going to need willpower to face the problem and put an end to the binging. The first thing you need to do is find out why you're doing it. Then take it from there.
Remember that if the situation get really bad please go out and seek professional help, doing this is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of strength in showing you want to get your life back on track. If your binging/purging cycle has carried on for a long time then it may be clear that you cannot stop it yourself and you need to seek others help, whether it is friends, family or professional. You need to get to the bottom of your problems and face up to the negative emotions they cause you. There are many books out their which talk directly about binging which teaches you about understanding where the problem stems from. Going to see professional help such as visiting psychologists can seem like a too big of a step to take, if this is the case reading a book written by a similar professional is a great and recommended alternative. There are also plenty of books out there about personal development and motivation which could do you wonders to read. Just remember anything is better than denial, and to continue damaging your body can have very dangerous health consequences.
