How to install a coat rack

By: Thomas Oak Somebody who can work a screwdriver, can mount their own coat racks. Even an unsophisticated tool box has the needed tools already in it to mount a coat rack. The first thing you will need to make a decision where one has a need for a coat rack, customarily located adjacent to an entrance door. When the location is determined you will want to resolve the elevation beginning from the flooring to fit your coat hooks. Conventional mounting heights are in the area of 40 inches for children to use and around 68 inches for grown-ups. The finished elevation will be up to you dependent on your needs.

Detect the approximate the middle of your preferred placement of your coat rack and measure from the floor, if you are anxious about marking directly on the wall or are not positive of the placement position a cut of painters tape on the wall and mark right on the tape. This thwarts drawing directly on the wall. Using a level, once more you can use a torpedo level place the level or laser on your mark and hold it parallel and mark the ends of the placement of the coat rack. If you do not have access to a torpedo level or laser you can obtain a section of painters tape around the length of the coat hook and position it on the wall horizontally, get back a short distance and thoroughly examine the painters tape does it look parallel to the floor? if not adjust until you have a nice parallel painters tape line.

After you have a nice level painters tape line to direct you in the putting up of a coat rack. The studs position need to be detected. The section of painters tape that was affixed earlier is the position to mark the center of each wall stud. A wall stud detector is the typical device used for locating the wall studs, a stud detector can be purchased for around $15.00. look the wall over for a nail pop in the drywall or use a magnet to establish a drywall nail. Wall studs are positioned every 16".

Our coat rack is now ready to install if your coat rack makes use of a through hole installation scheme, position your coat rack on the before created level mark positioned on the painters tape. Using one of the mounting fasteners put it in the mounting hole and mark the wall, repeat this for each mounting hole. If your coat rack make use of a key hole mounting procedure you will need to measure the distance between the keyholes and transfer the dimensions to the painters tape. As soon as the keyholes are indicated you need to pre-drill the screw holes, verify the fasteners and go for a drill bit somewhat smaller than the screw and drill the holes. If you are putting up the coat rack with the trough hole mounting procedure locate the coat rack align with the level line and predrilled holes introduce the mounting fasteners and tighten evenly. If you are using the key hole mounting procedure introduce the fasteners run them in until the head of the fasteners protrudes around 1/4 of an inch from the wall, put the coat rack over the fasteners and slide down. You’re new coat rack is now ready for use.
