Incorporating Education into Your Summer Holiday

By: Graham Baylis Many parents wonder if it is really possible to incorporate education into a holiday.  Well it is possible, and many holidays are not only filled with learning, but fun and excitement too, especially if you stay somewhere like London. With its museums, famous bridges, the “tower”, not to mention the “arts” you can be sure that London will entertain and educate your children.
So, if you are interested in scheduling an educational summer holiday for your and your family, you will have to decide on a destination, and when it comes to educational activities, you have a number of different options to choose from.
Many parents automatically think of museums.  Science museums, history museums, and art museums are located all around the UK.  If you are interested in including museums in your trip, you may find that just one visit will not fill up your whole summer holiday. However many parents have had success in scheduling “museum tours”.
Museum tours involve selecting a number of museums to visit. These museums are often viewed while on a family trip.  In addition to developing your own tour, it is possible that you and your family can sign up for a group tour. These tours may involve meeting a group of individuals at a specific museum or traveling with them by train or bus.  If you want to select multiple museums as your summer holiday destination, you are encouraged to select different museum styles.
If you are interested in scheduling a summer holiday that offers fun, excitement, and thrills all at once, you may want to examine visiting a theme park. Theme parks are amusement parks that focus on a particular theme like the wild west or the sea.  Places like Sea World are one of the best known educational theme parks in the world.  In addition to fun and exciting rides, you can watch aquatic shows and visit underwater aquariums.
In addition to places like Sea World, you could also visit one of the many Safari Parks in the UK. Here you can see animals living and interacting in something approaching their natural habitat. In addition to a number of thrill rides, these Safari Parks are known for their educational animal adventures.  These adventures may include onsite zoos or animal safari museums.
Guided tours are another popular Holiday choice for parents who are holidaying with their children.  Guided tours are available at a wide variety of different holiday destinations. Guided tours are often found in parks, animal sanctuaries, and at historical landmarks.
In short, choosing an educational activity based holiday will not have to limit your destination options to much. Also many popular holiday destinations are within a short distance to a number of facilities that host educational activities and events, so if you want you could get the best of both worlds.
With the ability to learn and have fun all at the same time, why would you not want to make your summer holiday an educational experience?
