Laptops Get Upgrades For Gamers Who Stay Mobile

By: Chris Channing PC gamers are no strangers to long hours in front of the computer, either killing time or enjoying a nice quiet evening at home. But when a PC gamer wants to go outside (should that ever happen), they run into a problem. Many of today's laptops were not created for gamers- and therefore, won't play many video games. So what is a gamer to do?

Laptops Get Gaming Upgrades

Gamers have a few choices when it comes to PC gaming. The latest advances in technology have enabled laptop manufacturers to pack more of a punch in a smaller area- meaning gamers can take their gaming on the road.

As far as technology goes, processors have gotten much of the attention as of late. Processors are now sporting technologies such as Duo-Core or Quad-Core technology. This technology essentially emulates several processors- meaning that multitasking can be achieved at a whole new level.

Next in line we have hard drives, which have seen less innovation in the laptop industry. Hard drives are still remaining in the 5,200 RPM areas, as compared to the 7,200 RPM that most desktop computers can enjoy. This means less performance, but because of heat and space issues, laptop owners usually just have to deal with this flaw in laptop gaming.

When it comes to the graphics card, gamers tend to splurge on the best video card available. But as gamers will soon find out, laptops have less options in this area. This is because laptops are smaller in design, and the latest graphics cards run too hot or are too bulky to fit in a laptop's design.

Pitfalls In Laptop Gaming

For laptop users who want to utilize their laptop for more than a couple of hours, gaming laptops might be a poor choice. There are power saving options, of course, but gaming laptops will still get much less battery life than less powerful laptops every single time. Whereas a gaming laptop might get a couple of hours, a normal one may get 10 or more.

Next, gaming laptops are rather small and provide poor mouse support. A laptop gamer will find that playing games on a touchpad just isn't worth the effort. Carrying a USB mouse around can work in most situations, but it's a hassle and finding a good place to put the mouse may pose as a problem.

Closing Arguements

Mobile gaming is becoming popular in today's culture, but the hardware and technology isn't always as advanced as we would like it to be. Be prepared to shell out a lot more money for gaming laptops. Also take into effect that excess heat can ruin the life of a laptop- meaning you should invest in cooling pads or extra fans for best effect.
