Magnetic Jewelry: An Overview and Introduction Part 1

By: Kurt Schmitt.. What is magnetic jewelry? Generally, it is the term used for jewelry items that either contain or are made out of magnets. These magnetic materials may be either synthetic or natural magnets.

Natural stone magnets used in this type of jewelry include pieces of magnetite or magnetized hematite, but man-made magnets may be used as well. Much of the hematite, both magnetic and non-magnetic ends up being synthetic, while magnetite is naturally magnetic. This makes magnetite extremely difficult to demagnetize.

There are several varieties of Magnetic jewelry. Some are of the metal type, often made of plated metal, stainless steel or titanium. Some are made from the magnetic stones themselves, and polished to a luster. Some are even made from a material with magnets woven in.

Since the metal magnetic jewelry has the magnets mounted on the skin-facing side, these magnets can come loose and fall out. No matter what type of jewelry you're buying, the purpose is to perform magnetic therapy on the appropriate part of your body while you are wearing it.

The popularity of magnetic jewelry is on the rise in the US. In the year 2000, it was reported that more than 120 million people worldwide use magnets. In many cultures and areas of the world, it has been custom to use magnets for healing purposes for many years.

Magnetic jewelry, like non-magnetic jewelry, comes in bracelets, necklaces, anklets, and earrings. Therefore, it can be used to relieve pain in various parts of the body. Don't expect, however, that a magnetic bracelet will relieve your back pain. It is not designed for that area of the body.

Magnetic jewelry is not intended to be sold as a medical device. There are a number of theories on how it works, and it is sometimes claimed to enhance blood flow by affecting charged ions in the blood, or block pain signals.

Many times, people will ask us how magnets heal. The answer, of course is that they do not heal. The magnets themselves do not actually heal anything, but allow the body to heal itself.

Magnetic fields are said to have a positive effect on the body. This effect has been shown through research to range from lowering blood pressure to aiding in the healing of bone fractures.

Magnetic therapy is becoming more and more widely accepted as an alternative method of pain relief. Some call it pain relief without drugs. An interesting thing to note is that some scientific research may indicate that magnets increase the production of endorphins. Endorphins are the body's natural pain killers. Magnetic jewelry is a way to apply that pain relief continuously in the privacy of your own home.

Magnetic jewelry has been reported by users to have many benefits. As one physician-medical reporter put it, magnets work, otherwise people would stop using them. They are not, however, intended to be sold as a medical device. Magnetic jewelry is becoming increasingly popular as an alternative treatment to help relieve pain and increase the body's natural healing process.
