Making a Difference Together

By: Healthy Wealthy nWise Charlie Gay's name might not be familiar, but his events certainly are. After starting his career at age 22, Charlie began organizing events for Margaret Thatcher when he was only 24. It didn't take long before he started promoting events for some of the biggest names in music, including Luciano Pavarotti, Pink Floyd, Duran Duran, Fleetwood Mac, and Phil Collins.

In 1991, Charlie Gay came to the United States to join Cher's personal management team. Since then he has organized events for the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Candlestick Park, and the Washington, D.C. Mall. Charlie also co-founded Promenade Pictures with Frank Yablans, who is the founder of Buena Vista and the head of Paramount Pictures.

With all of the work and travel in his life, you'd think Charlie had no time for changing the world. You'd be wrong. Charlie Gay's real joy is in his work with Humanity Unites Brilliance, or HUB. HUB is a for-profit organization striving to bring people out of mere survival and into self-empowerment and sustained abundance.

Charlie Gay has always been driven by enthusiasm and passion, two traits that have brought him both success and failure. Luckily, Charlie's successes have outnumbered his failures. In fact, some of his other successes include his work with Nelson Mandela's Mineseeker Foundation and his organization efforts for Billy Graham's final crusade.

Through music or charity, Charlie Gay has always been passionate about uniting people. He knows that all people have goals and desires. They all want to help others, but not everyone knows how to go from desire to action. That's what the HUB organization does - unites people who have a common goal so that the goal can be reached.

An example of this uniting can be found in Mozambique. Storms had forced people into massive refugee camps. Non-profit organizations were low on money and resources, and even the United Nations World Food Program was 70% short on funding. Charlie spoke to Heidi Baker about the situation because she had been a primary care-giver in the country for over 20 years.

Because Heidi felt she was not able to deal with the hunger problem herself, Charlie contacted Larry Jones of the non-profit Feed the Children organization. They in turn contacted the for-profit company Nourish the Children, and in doing so, they were able to deliver $2 million worth of meals to the starving refugees in Mozambique via a factory in China.

To help others, we must first look at ourselves. What are your talents? What are your strengths? As the saying goes, "Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll never go hungry." Throwing money at a cause isn't the answer. Dig deep within yourself and unite with others to make great changes in your community and the world.
