Music Artist Gavin Degraw

By: Mar Gavin DeGraw is an American rock musician who found fame in 2003 after his track "I Don't Want To Be" was chosen as the title theme to the WB televison show One Tree Hill, which stars Chad Michael Murray. Of late, his song "We Belong Together" is featured on the soundtrack to Tristan & Isolde.

Biography
Gavin DeGraw was born on February 4, 1977. He grew up in South Fallsburg, New York, United States. His father was a prison guard and his mother was a detox specialist, as mentioned in his song "I Don't Want To Be".

DeGraw is a singer, songwriter, pianist, and guitarist. He tours small and large venues throughout the United States. His J Records debut album, Chariot, includes eleven songs.

His profile erupted after his song "I Don't Wanna Be" was chosen as theme song for the teen soap opera One Tree Hill, which aired on The WB on Wednesdays at 8/7c. "I Don't Want To Be" has also been sung on American Idol by Season 4 runner-up Bo Bice and Season 5 contestant Elliot Yamin. Another of DeGraw's songs, "Follow Through," has also achieved popularity and radio play. His song "We Belong Together" has been featured in the 2006 movie Tristan and Isolde, starring James Franco and Sophia Myles. DeGraw recently released an acoustic version of Chariot called Chariot Stripped. DeGraw and his band recorded the album live in the studio, in only one take on the vocals, seeking an intimate effect.

Originally, DeGraw started in Manhattan clubs drawing his hometown fans to small clubs. Over 2004, his profile has grown bringing him to other states as he tours the country. He has appeared on television shows such as The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Late Show With David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show , and Live with Regis and Kelly. Recently, he has been seen in cameos on Dead Like Me on Showtime, What I Like About You on the WB, and American Dreams.

His brother Joey DeGraw is also a recording artist. He has played guitar and sang with Gavin on many different occasions.

DeGraw has recently toured with such acts as The Barenaked Ladies, Butterfly Boucher, The Allman Brothers Band, Marc Broussard, and Maroon 5.

He also appeared in One Tree Hill, singing "I Don't Wanna Be" and "Chariot" at Karen's Cafe.
