Myspace gone Political

By: Steve Justis MySpace, the biggest online social network, announced it has started a elections channel in preparation for the 2008 presidential campaign.

Myspaces political site is called the Impact Channel. The site, owned by NewsCorpwill feature pages for 10 presidential candidates -- five Democrats and five Republicans.

According to comScore MediaMetrix,MySpace landed approximately 60 million United States visitors in December and around 90 million in global traffic.

Over the past few months, candidates have vowed to use the viral nature of the internet to join the resty of the world and reach voters online. Some young voters meshed in their own online culture, like MySpace's teens and young adults, have been exceptionally difficult influence through the normal channels of traditional communication.

Visitors to the website are tempted with familiar code to copy and repost candidates' graphics to to their personal profile MySpace pages and to bolster the internet money machine for different presidential campaigns.

While Myspace's Impact Channel was beginning with a focus on the U.S. presidential election, It will grow to include global features for political contests of all kindsand also non-profits.
