New World Wine & Food Festival - November 7-11

By: Tymon Hytem Where can you find premium wine and food combined with local and internationally known chefs and winemakers? At the New World Wine & Food Festival! The festival was founded in the year 2000 to promote San Antonio as a premier wine and food destination. They feature local and internationally known chefs as well as winemakers. This year you can help them welcome visiting winemakers from Argentina.
Starting on November 7th you can cruise the San Antonio River with Chef Michael Flores or you can join Bon Appetit Senior Editor, Heather John for cocktails on the 9th. There are so many events to choose from during these glorious 5 days I would say it would be hard to pick between them all. It sounds like the Black Tie at the Omni La Mansion del Rio on November 9th would be the highlight of the festival, not to mention an evening you won’t forget.
The festival is for ages 21 and up so be sure to bring your ID’s with you. The exception to the rule is Sunday the 11th when they will be having a family event. Totally Tejas at the Rio Cibolo Ranch! From 1 – 6pm there will be plenty of food, wine and craft vendors to keep everyone happy. There will also be hayrides, river barge rides, a silent auction, storytelling and live entertainment. Definitely a fun full day for everyone!
The festival is a non-profit organization and they are always looking for volunteers. Individuals and groups are encouraged to participate. Stiff requirements for volunteers this year - you have to be over 21 and you have to know how to smile and have fun! They also have packages for those of you who are thinking of entertaining some clients or have some out of town guests that you’re not sure what to do with! If you can’t seem to wait until November, they have a preview event on Saturday, August 18th at Rambling Rose, Becker Vineyards where you’ll enjoy a summer tasting and elegant appetizers. Or on September 24th you can attend the ultra lavish, one of a kind event at The Argyle. This is truly a one of a kind event where you have award winning San Antonio chefs and the city’s most prestigious wine cellars together in one beautiful location. Of course, keep in mind tickets are for advanced sale only at – are you sitting down? Tickets are for $400 a person. If you are lucky enough to attend please enjoy every tasty second!
