Personal Coaching - What You Need To Know

By: George Purdy Personal coaching has become more and more popular over the recent years. Having a personal coach helps improve ones live in many ways. One way is that people are often motivated by someone who is unbiased and reliable. These coaches give advice to the person and help improve their lives without being judgmental.

Communication is vital in the personal coach-client relationship. If the coach and client aren’t communicating at the same level or are misunderstanding each other, the coach needs to use different competences in order to improve the relationship. No matter for what reason someone may hire a personal (or life) coach, personal or business, a good communication strategy is important.

Communication takes many forms. It is important to evaluate both verbal and non-verbal cues that clients exhibit when interpreting their communications. Personal coaches must evaluate the communication style of their clients and determine what their word choice, body language and omitted information is saying as a whole. Personal coaches must be experts at deriving the total picture and presenting that picture, even if it is unsettling, to their client.

Personal coaching involves many techniques designed to help clients elaborate their thoughts and goals. One technique is powerful questioning. Investigating questions that the client may be uncomfortable with, but are clearly major issues from an outsiders’ perspective can often times be the most useful effects of personal coaching. When clients are forced to face these questions often times they can come to self realizations otherwise not possible without outside help.

In order to develop a strong bond between a client and a personal coach, direct communication is very much needed. This kind of communication enables the client to speak with his/her personal coach face to face. Even though email, phone calls and text messages prove to be beneficial for those who hardly find time for direct communication, the best choice left for any personal coach to get all the knowledge about his client would be to meet the client and talk to him/her face to face.

As our world gets more complex, many people are starting to realize that they aren’t going to accomplish the goals they want to reach without help. This is where a personal coach fits in. The coach will listen, make suggestions, and help the client work towards his goals in ways the client would be unable to achieve alone.

Personal coaching is increasingly popular. People have come to the realization that having another set of eyes to help them with life issues is invaluable. This holds true in a lot of life situations, but having someone to answer to who listens and gives unbiased advice can be very helpful in reaching your goals. Communication is a large part of coaching. If a coach and their client are having trouble communicating, it is up to the coach to try different competences to improve this area of the relationship. Whether the personal coaches are employed to help the client with business or personal relationships, communication strategies are important.
