Sometimes we love a dish so much but grossly lack on the information relating to its culinary background, how the thing is actually prepared and the other technical aspects of the food. The same is true of the steaks as well. Steaks are such an integral part of American culinary culture, but how many of us know about the different types of steaks that are used to cook up different types of steak recipes? But if you are truly passionate about a food, you should learn about the basic things about it and this knowledge will help you to appreciate its taste even more. Below are some information on the technical aspects of steaks for those who can not imagine a life without this yummy delicacy.

To begin with, what does a steak actually mean? When you are speaking of steak you are referring to a big slice from a larger piece of meat and traditionally the term, steak is typically associated with beef. But with time, fish, other red meats and chicken have also been included in the brigade of steaks.

What is so unique about steaks? Well, its uniqueness lies in its cuts. Steaks are specially cut perpendicularly to the muscle fibers. This way the tenderness of the meat remain highest. It is the tender parts of the animals that are used to be cut into steaks.

Because of these special treatments, the meat you get in the steaks are different from ordinary meat and naturally demands special style of cooking. The commonest type of steak preparation you get in the USA is the grilled or barbecued version. Though in the other parts of the world, pan fried and boiled versions are more commonplace. In order to retain the softness of the meat piece, the steaks are cooked quickly over dry heat. Each steak dish contains the whole portion.

If you are not confident of preparing steaks at home, try it out in one of the steak houses, the specialty restaurants for steaks. Traditionally steaks are accompanied by a starchy side dish containing potato or sometimes rice or pasta. The boiled vegetables are also consumed along with beef steaks. Then if you are confident of your digestive support, you can order the famous dish called 'surf and turf' in which steaks are served along with cooked lobster claws. However, you will need a steak knife, much sharper than the ordinary knives for tackling your beef steak.

At the time of ordering steak in a steak house don't get baffled by the different styles by which each steak preparation is described. The 'Chicago' or 'Pittsburgh' or other styles only refer to the way the steak is prepared. If you are not aware of the actual steak vocabularies, then simply explain to the waiter what degree of charring you would like your steak to come with.
