Stress - As It Affects Different Individuals

By: Salihu Ibrahim Stress is a relative term as far as individuals are concern. What could cause stress to one person may be a challenge to another. For example, an individual who finds pleasure in been creative on a particular issue, or likes been very busy solving challenging issues could find it rather stressful taking a desk job or a less challenging job. Also, what could be stressful to young people as a result of carrier choices, marriage issues, child bearing and the like may not be stress causing issues to a older woman or man who rather will face stress due to worry about their carreer and time of retirement, life after retirement and the general state of the economy.

Stress generally is a situation that arises due to excess demand over personal ability to meet up with demands or mobilize the required resources. When there is an issue that is above your knowledge, it becomes stressful just thinking about the best way to figure it out. But when you have the capacity to handle such issue or task and you have time on your side, you may not regard it as stressful or feel stressed over it.

Stress, whether bad or good could have either negative or positive effect on you. The only thing that makes a difference is your ability to manage any form of stress. Stress, good or bad, can be motivating or demoralizing. When in a stressful situation, you can be propelled to act and find answers to difficult issues. At the same time you can face some stress that can completely knock you down. However, chronic stress, positive or negative could be harmful.

Like was earlier stated, stress is peculiar to every individual. The way you perceive stress will determine the way you manage or control it. For some people, having a deadline to meet their task is a propellant factor that drives them into completing a task faster than they ever imagine they could. What stress is to say a medical practitioner may differ with what it is to a legal practitioner, a scientist or a writer. Stress is what stress is to the perceptor and the method of stress control or management differ with individuals.
