Suggested Pieces for the Foot of Your Bed

By: Are you fortunate to have a bedroom large enough to place a piece of furniture at the end of your bed? Whether for beauty or function, there are plenty of ways to use this space. You can find unique pieces at tag sales or flea markets or select a special piece for your room. Depending on the amount of space you have, you're sure to find the perfect piece. Here are some things you might want to consider for placing at the foot of your bed.

Storage Bench – Whether you choose a wooden bench or an upholstered one, a storage bench provides a perfect area to put bedding, pillows, and extra linens. You can sit on it while putting on your socks and shoes, and a handy place to put your bedspread at night.

Low Cabinet or Trunk – While a long, low piece may look better in most rooms, even a taller piece will work well. You can conveniently store your CDs, books, bedding, and anything else that you use in the bedroom inside the drawers. A trunk can hold pillows and blankets. Get wooden pieces if you can, since these add balance to the interiors of your bedroom.

Chairs – If you often read in your room, you could put two small upholstered armchairs or side chairs at the end of your bed. With an ottoman and small reading lamp, you'll have a comfy, personal reading nook.

Wicker or Iron Seating – Like I said earlier, the foot of the bed provides you with an ideal location for an unusual piece of furniture. Iron or wicker pieces are great for casual interiors or rooms with a classic look. Add a printed or floral cushion to correspond with the rest of the room.

TV Cabinet – The latest trend in bedroom furniture is a TV cabinet that goes up and down at a touch of a button. Think about it; you’ll have a bench or cabinet during the day and an entertainment center at night! You'll have to dig deep into your wallet for this one.

Table – If you have a small round, oblong, or oval table, this will work perfectly. Get a floor-length tablecloth that matches your room. If you have more space, add a small side chair on each end of the table. A pedestal or side table can provide space for DVDs, collections, family pictures, or a small TV. The table should not be more than 8" taller than the top of your mattress.

Loveseat – Putting a loveseat at the end of a large bed also works great. Add a nice floor lamp to provide some soft light, decorate the loveseat with some cushions and an optional blanket, and you’re ready to go!

Writing Desk – Adding a writing desk to the foot of your bed allows you to use your bedroom as a cozy study. Read your mail, write letters, make your shopping list or make a phone call in the comfort of your bedroom.

These are just a few of the pieces that you can use to add that extra touch to your bedroom. With a little bit of creativity, you can find some more ideas to put at the end of your bed.
