Taking Good Care of A New Tattoo

By: Mike Wamoult Once your tattoo is complete the tattoo artist will tell you the best way to take care of your new tattoo and it is probably a good idea to listen to him. Most shops will have an information sheet listing care instructions. There are three things to remember about caring for your new tattoo, moisturize it but do not over moisturize it and most importantly, NEVER pick at the scabs as they begin to form.

Failure to adhere to the laid down rules will mean that you stand the risk of getting infected from various things and you may destroy the beauty of your new tattoo. If you stick to the advice provided in the information you are given at the tattoo studio and in adherence to the two basic rules always known to work, you should be alright.

A lot of people get one tattoo and decide to mix up the rules when they get another one. Regardless of whether you have used something which you developed a reaction to, you are better of contacting the tattoo artist and asking for what you can substitute it with. A patch test on your skin before you get a tattoo may be a good idea to see whether you develop a reaction.

Another problem is that various tattoo artists have their own ways which they recommend you should take care of tattoos; the problem is that these methods vary from one tattoo artist to the next and this tends to become a problem. While a particular artist may recommend the use of Neosporin, another might recommend that you powder your bed before you go to sleep. Some would recommend mild baby soap in order to wash the tattoo or other such methods etc.

In some circles different ointments and lotions are recommended and some people recommend the Tea Tree Oil from Body Shop, others would recommend Vaseline Intensive Care as a simple form of treatment.

If you stay in an area that is dry the chances are that you'll be using a lot of lotion anyway so you can opt for a large pump bottle of lotion in order to get the best bargain. This will help you forestall any problems and take proper care of your tattoo.

There is so much contradiction from one studio to the next when it comes to body art healing and it can be quite confusing. However, there are legitimate reasons why there are so many different opinions out there. Some of the ways to properly care for your new tattoo have already been discussed but there are many other ointments and lubes designed just for tattoos but most are just commercialized versions of what was advised to use earlier.

There is a plausible reason for the variety of ways to take care of your tattoo; this is because of various improvements in technology and a variety of products that have become available in the marketplace. Petroleum jelly was a largely popular product in the past due to the fact that it was widely available, inexpensive and did the task rather well. However ever since then it has been discovered that products which are petroleum based tend to drain the color from tattoos and they possess no healing powers.
