Taking a Look at Patchy Hair Loss

By: Jamie Bollig Are you suddenly finding small patches of baldness spread over different parts of your body? Do they seem to heal and then reappear in new locations? If so, you are suffering from patchy hair loss.

Whereas normal balding or slowed hair growth generally limits itself to the scalp, sudden patchy hair loss can appear anywhere on the body. Female patchy hair loss is just as likely to occur as it is in males. There is no absolute way of determing when or why any given individual will be afflicted with this condition.

The causes of patchy hair loss are not genetic and are not necessarily affected by environmental factors, either. Female patchy hair loss is just as common as instances found in male patients. One might start out experiencing this type of hair loss in one area of the body only to find after time that the condition has healed and left the area only to move to another area of the body.

Patchy hair loss in women and men can be an embarrassing condition and those with the condition often have a difficult time coping. As mentioned above, sufferers will do anything possible in order to hide their condition. They may wear long clothing or avoid going out in public altogether.

It is especially important to seek medical attention if you think you hair loss was caused by a fungal infection. Fungal infections can spread to other areas of the body, making your hair loss even worse. They are also highly contagoius so you will want to avoid sharing your infection with others.

Ringworm, for example, is a fungal infection that will cause patches of hair loss to appear wherever the infection is harbored. Ringworm can be easily spread from one area of the body to another, creating new bald patches wherever it lands. The fungal infection is also contagious, so immediate medical attention is necessary to stop both the infection and the hair loss.

Seek the advice of a physician if you aren't sure what is causing your patchy hair loss. Your physican may be able to recommend treatments in order to lessen the severity of your condition. Also, do not be afraid to seek counseling if dealing with patchy hair loss has become overwhelming on an emotional level.

Maintaining a healthy diet and participating in a regular exercise program will keep your body healthy and support your immune system. Doing so will enable you to promote the natural eradication of your patchy hair loss even sooner.
