The Basics of Affiliate Marketing

By: ColinMcNulty Affiliate Marketing is a well-liked and cutting edge home based business that is rapidly on the rise. Affiliate marketers promote web-based products that aren't their own to sell. The Internet business you are supporting will issue you a commission for every time a browser clicks from your site to their website, (Pay Per Click); every time a browser hands over contact info through you, (Pay Per Lead); or for every sale made through you, (Pay Per Sale). This can be great for both the Internet business and the affiliate marketer: the Internet business doesn't have to pay until it gets results, and the marketer can earn substantial commissions.

Remember, not everyone succeeds at Affiliate Marketing. If you are contemplating getting into the internet marketing business, here are some basic tips to assist you:

Choose a service you are prepared to back fully. If you aren't completely satisfied about the products you have picked to market, don't try to fake it. Possible clients won't believe in your service if you don't endorse it utterly, and you will not do this if you in fact don't honestly believe in it. So shop around. Definitely think about obtaining sample products from a selection of websites. Email the Internet business, explain that you are intending on becoming an affiliate for them, and that you would like to try their products out. Many Internet businesses would be happy to provide you with a free sample.

Ask the right questions. Be wary if they can't answer your questions to your satisfaction. How do they record your sales? Do they pay per click, etc? Why you should become an affiliate of theirs? Is it possible to record your sales through their site as well? Are there any costs to join? Do not be bashful about asking detailed questions of affiliate programs.

Build a site search engines like. Traffic is the Key to your success. Search engines tend to love sites that have a lot of appropriate information, have a lot of sites pointing to it, and that enjoy a fair amount of visitors already. The content on the site is particularly significant. You will need at a minimum one article for every significant keyphrase that is germane to the site. But be careful, don't just throw content together for the sake of the search engines, or your visitors won't stick around to click on your high paying affiliate links. Make sure you include keyword phrases, but create for browsers directly.

Write online articles. In order to tell the world about your site, it would be of assistance to learn to be a knowledgeable source in your market. Publish articles on topics in your niche that your visitors might be wanting to find, and post them to article directories. Make sure you include a back link to your site as it will increase your link count and make your site more attractive to the search engines.

Take advantage of auto responders. When a potential customer emails your site, you should have an automatic email responder system created to drip feed them information, a free report, tidbits of interest, a discount code, a coupon, anything that will get them revisiting your site.

Record email addresses. The best way to do this is to provide registration for your e-zine. Do not store email addresses that visitors haven't given you absolute authority to use. This is spam and is unethical. Consider also offering freebies in exchange for their emails, e.g. discounts, entry into a contest etc.

Don't sell, pre sell. This is vital to running a successful Affiliate Marketing site. Your aim as an affiliate marketer should be to not to press aggressive sales letters pushing your affiliate service. The Internet business you are marketing will already have a salesletter like that on their site, which the potential customer will read after clicking their link from your site. In its place, craft a site that is directed to the interests of visitors who you think intend buy the service. Include videos, blogs, informative articles, add ons, a discussion forum etc. Consider producing an article advocating the service, but don't single mindedly focus the full site on it. In its place, try to make your site a valuable web page for visitors who you want to click through and purchase it.

Affiliate Marketing can be a superbly worthwhile and lucrative home based business. But it's not for people who would like cash for no effort. A winning affiliate marketing business is a full time job, at least initially. But if you heed this simple advice, it's likely to be worth your time.
