With recent controversy regarding models getting too thin to be paraded, some people are beginning to wonder if the lifestyle of these models would have an adverse impact on our impressionable youths.

When overweight people see these super thin models and know how much emphasis is put on looking good, they become very anxious to lose weight. In no way do we think it is necessary for anyone to be overly thin but at the same time it isn't healthy to be overweight.

Weight loss can be challenging but with the right attitude and strategies, you will have a much smoother quest. For a start, you need to set your goals and plan. Determine what you want, how much weight you are going to lose and by when. This preparation will go a long way to ensure that you achieve what you set out to do.

For those looking to lose a bit of weight, here are five easy ways that will help you succeed.

1. Slimming pills are the rage presently. While some of them can produce the results they claim, we should not be overly dependent on them. For them to work most effectively, you need to watch your diet. There is no such thing as a miracle pill that will help you slim down if you insist on eating unhealthily.

2. Do not starve yourself or attempt 'crash diets'. Crash diets do not help you to lose weight and keep it off. You may lose a little bit of weight while you are starving yourself but as soon as you start eating again you will put it back on. This is because you haven't actually changed your eating habits and so you will go right back to your bad habits again. It is also unhealthy to starve yourself as you are denying your body the nutrients that it needs.

3. Eat a healthy diet. Changing your eating habits so that you start eating a healthy diet is the BEST way to lose weight and keep it off. Healthy eating means that you should be eating nutritious foods like fruits and vegetables and you will be surprised at how much more energy you will have by doing this. Healthy eating also means that you should stop eating when you are full and make sure that you don't eat just because you are bored, lonely or upset. You need to establish this healthy eating habit and stick to it for the long term so that you can keep the weight off.

4. Introduce some exercise into your routine. Exercise will help you to lose weight as well as help you maintain a healthy body. Everyone should have some exercise in their life to assist the body to function well. You don't need to be doing anything too strenuous, something as simple as a 20 minute walk each day would be fine to begin with.

5. Drink lots of water and have enough sleep. Having at least eight glasses of water a day will help to reduce your hunger and help you stick to your diet. Sufficient sleep will provide you with the energy you need to keep your body metabolism working efficiently.

Do bear in mind that there is no miracle pill for losing weight. It is a time wasting endeavor should you insist on seeking out those quick fix solutions.

People who do not lose weight successfully usually do not have a weight loss plan. They are merely hopping from one fix to another. I would suggest that you design your plan well and keep to that.

Losing weight need not be rocket science. Most of time, it all boils down to basics- good nutrition, exercise and well-being. Plan well and put your plans into action. Before you know it, you will have the body and health you aspire.
