Tidbits of Advice for Pet Owners

By: Hal Stormi.. I highly recommend adding a pet to your family, even it if is just you. They are simply tremendous, but you have to make sure you understand their needs for it to be a good two way relationship. With that in mind, here are some tips to make you a good pet owner.

1. Dog Urine in Carpet – If your dog can’t hold it anymore, don’t get to angry. You can get the urine out without much problem. Mix sudsy water with lemon juice and blot the carpet

2. Feeding Cats Lobster – If you are munching on lobster, don’t give it to your cat. Lobster with butter on it can block up their intestines.

3. Removing Burrs in Dog Fur – Dogs inevitably get all kinds of things in their fir. With burrs, the first step is to smash them with pliers. Next, rub oil into the fur and then pull the burr out.

4. Pets Marking Territory – If your pet urinates in the house, clean it up right away. Make sure to get the smell out or your pet will come back and do it again to mark its territory.

5. Pets Hate Baths – Nearly every pet hates baths. Heck, they can even understand you when you spell the word out. Bring a toy or two in to the bathroom to calm them down.

6. Skunk Odors on Dogs – Inquisitive dogs often pay the price with skunks. To get skunk smell off, wash your dog with tomato juice. Then wash them with regular shampoo and rinse. You might have to do it twice.

7. Pain Killer Misunderstandings – Just because your pet is now on painkillers does not mean he is back to normal. The medication is relieving the pain, not curing the problem. Don’t assume they are ready to be active again.

8. Exotic Pet Vets – If you are going to get an exotic pet, put the brakes on. First make sure there is a vet in the area that can handle any medical needs.

9. Pets In Pools – Throwing a ball into a pool for a pet to chase is a favorite pastime. Swimming is good for their hips, but watch their fur. It can dry out the skin because of the clorine.

10. Dog Tennis Ball – Tennis balls are a dogs favorite toy. They are also bad for their jaws. Get a medically approved ball at the local store.

Ultimately, owning a pet almost always works out for the best. The only time there are problems is if you don’t understand your pet or fail to take care of it. If you want to play with your pet during the day, don’t by one that is naturally active at night!
