Tips To Help A Hurting Back

By: Kay Brown Injurying ones back is a pretty common occurence, and if you are one of the millions of people around the world who has, you can expect to have back pain for possibly a long time. Proprietary medication is often the first route to back pain relief; Whilst prescription pain relief pills may in fact dull the pain to a manageable degree, they do not treat the root cause of the problem. They merely blot out the pain, making it feel like the injury is gone, but it isn't.

Long term use of pain killing prescription medication is something that should be supervised by a medical doctor as other problems can occur because of their continued use. People can and have become addicted to these types of drugs and have ended up with many more problems than they started out with.

The problem with the back is just how strong it is and at the same time how easily it can become damaged. Sitting incorrectly or standing poorly, can often lead to permanent injurys to the spinal collum and often lead to a permanent condition.

However, back pain is usually caused by a lifting accident or from lifting incorrectly and it is normally the lower back that suffers. There are a number of natural back pain relief methods that mean you will not have to rely on drugs. One of the simplest but also underused remedies is just the act of stretching which can bring relief to tense muscles as well.

On the other hand reflexology is an alternative medical practice. Pressure is applied to the feet to relieve pain in different parts of the body, it works very well in relieving back pain. Another benefit to reflexology is how it can improve the circulation which helps to ease tense muscles.

The Chinese medical art of acupuncture can also be used to help bring back pain relief, something which has only been recognized a short while in the West. If you follow Traditional Chinese medicine then you will know that they believe all people have a unique energy force running through their body called qi or chi. Chi is blocked in a sick body and needles inserted into specific points, ease many types of pain. There are large numbers of people that use acupuncture on a regular basis and claim it works well for them providing pain relief; especially those who have what is termed a chronic condition.

A slower and gentler type of Yoga called Tai Chi, once again from China, is another method of back pain control. This method uses breathing control as the main source of relief with some stretching involved. It is so easy to learn by the young and old alike.

In addition to these methods to natural back pain relief, exercise can also help to relieve back pain. By exercising regularly there is less chance of a back pain attack.
