Tips for getting the most out of your Life Coaching Experience

By: Jeanette Meierhofer CFLC Over the years, I have been both the coach and the client. In both roles, I've found some strategies that helped me and my clients get the most out of being coached. Follow a few of these simple rules and you'll find your growth excel beyond your wildest dreams.
*Release your expectations
As a Personal Life Coach, I've found that clients are most resistant to just being on the journey. They have their goals in mind, but get frustrated when the road takes a sudden turn. They are so caught up in their expectations of what should happen as a result of their actions, that they've forgotten the power of just taking actions in service of their intention and simply seeing what happens. After all, we're in charge of what we do, but not what comes of it. Be open to wherever the journey takes you.
*Be open to the fact that no matter what happens, you are experiencing a lot of personal growth.
Most of my sessions are simply about whatever is going on in the client's mind and heart that day. Certainly they hire me to help with with a specific life goal, and we always reach a destination they are satisfied with, but the every day issues that creep up and need sorting always serve the higher goal in the end. When you grow, you become more of who you are, no matter what direction you grow in. It will always take you to a better place, trust in that.
*Complete the Work your Life Coach Gives You
Admittedly I'm a bit ambitious when it comes to my own personal growth, so when I was coached, I did my homework and I did it as thoroughly as possible. I have clients who do the same and they reach their goals a lot quicker than the clients who don't do the work at all. If you are challenged by the homework you are assigned, bring it up with your coach. This is a great opportunity to discover what's behind those challenges and to find tools to overcome them. Put into your coaching what you want to get out of it.
*Show up fully for your coaching sessions
How are you showing up for your sessions? If you're being coached over the phone, make sure you're sitting still in a peaceful and quiet place. If you're being coached in person, find a way to be present in the room with your coach. The more engaged you are in what you are doing, the more you'll get out of your sessions.
