Understanding Gynecomastia Treatment

By: Derek Silverman The excess tissue in the breast area is a problem that many men face. There are a number of causes for this condition that will have a treatment plan that will work to eliminate the tissue and swollen area. The first thing that you will have to do is find out the cause of your swollen breast area so that you can find the right gynecomastia treatment. Some of the common causes of this condition are obesity, hormones, liver disease, medications and some genetic problems.
The hormonal imbalances that can occur during puberty are the most common cause of this disorder. There are as many as sixty percent of boys that suffer a hormonal imbalance when they are going through puberty. The boy fails to produce enough testosterone during this time and this causes the balance of estrogen to be significantly higher. There is no need of a gynecomastia treatment in these cases because it should disappear over time.
Another cause of man boobs is drug use. Men usually develop considerably big breasts when they are taking steroids and other related medication. This too doesn't need medical treatment as this can be resolved by simply discontinuing the use of medication.
When weight and obesity is the cause of the problem then a diet is usually all that is necessary to bring the condition under control. If a diet that is high in fruits and veggies along with a good amount of exercise is used, the person who is suffering from enlarged breasts should find that the condition remedies itself.
There are some illnesses that can cause the problem in men. Hypogonadism, hyperthyroidism, and other conditions can be responsible for the enlarged breasts. There is not a need for a treatment of the enlarged breasts, but a treatment on the underlying illness that is causing the problem will work to resolve both issues. This is the reason that it is necessary to see your doctor if you are suffering from enlarged breasts. A gynecomastia treatment may not be necessary but identifying underlying illnesses is a very important part of eliminating the problem.
If it is found that the problem cannot be corrected with diet and exercise or that there is not a medication that is causing the issue, there are surgical procedures that can eliminate the excess tissues in the breast area that are causing them to be enlarged. The gynecomastia treatment that is used will typically last for a period of two to three hours and will require a six-week recovery time. Patients who are thinking of having the surgery are given all of the information about the procedure so that they can make an informed choice.
This gynecomastia treatment usually last about two to three hours and is done under general anesthesia. Recovery time is normally achieved within six weeks provided there are no complications from the operation. Patients who consider going under the knife are encouraged to understand the whole process including the risks and possible complications involved.
If you know the cause of the enlarged breasts, it is a simple process to eliminate the problem. Surgery is not the only answer to this embarrassing issue. There are many other options that should be tried before surgery is discussed.
