Utilizing Skin Care For Acne Effectively

By: James Redder It wasn't that long ago when acne (Zits) was considered a curse for the many individuals that suffer from this problem; however, many effective treatments are available. Research into skin care treatment has been advancing for some time now; these days, even with serious cases, there are many skin care treatments available. Skin care for acne products all fall into one of three main categories:
  • Those that help prevent the condition
  • Over-the-counter: Treatment
  • Specialized, on-prescription acne products

The preventative products are formulated to treat the skin in an effort to prevent acne from arising like skin cleansers and makeup removers. We should all use products like this to maintain our skin and prevent future problems from occurring.

Many of these cleansers act in almost exactly the same way as acne products which have been formulated to limit the amount of oil or sebum forming in the pores. Excess oil needs to be stopped from clogging the pores as this oil make it easier for bacteria to grow, exacerbating the condition.

Exfoliation skin peels have proved quite effective as a skin care treatment and at controlling the problem. There are now more and more of these types of products available over the counter. This type of peel helps reduce the chance of oil clogging up the pores as well as removing other skin impurities; this can reduce the bacterium growth on your skin.

There is a huge market for these types of skin care for acne products as they don't require a consultation with a dermatologist. Products that can remove the pore clogging oil contain the ingredient benzoyl peroxide; these include creams, cleansers and peels that slow down acne formation.

In case there is a reaction to the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide, dermatologists recommend that any product you use should be a low concentrations of no more that 5.5 parts per hundred. A good alternative to benzoyl peroxide is anything containing alpha hydroxy acid. As with any type of zit creams, you may need to try a few skin care for acne products until you find one that will suit your skin. If this is proving difficult, your dermatologist should be able to help.

Only doctors or skin care specialists can prescribe some medications, including the use of antibiotics and certain ointments. In more serious cases your skin care specialist may decide that a small surgical procedure can be used to remove the oil and infection from your pores. You are warned never to attempt this yourself as it could lead to serious skin problems.

In Closing

Your doctor may even suggest a course of hormone therapy as a skin care treatment. Hormone changes are sometimes responsible for acne and can be very effective when used under prescription. With all the treatments available, tackling acne is not that difficult as there are many new products available to help.
