Why You Need to Have an Air Cleaner and Tips on How to Purchase One

By: Jeff Dodd If you believe that air purifiers are costly luxury device, read on. You are more likely to discover the benefits of having a device that gets rid of airborne allergens and improves the kind of the air you breathe.

Why Purchase an Air Cleaner

Studies prove that indoor air is twice to five times more polluted than outdoor air. This is because buildings nowadays are designed to trap air inside to avoid heat gain during summer and loss of heat during winter. The consequence is build up of airborne allergens that may come from such sources as dusts and mold spores.

The dirty air that circulates in the building can be detrimental because airborne allergens like dander flakes from pets and tobacco smoke can in fact cause asthmatic and allergic reactions. In addition to this, a number of people stay indoor and are more prone to breathe dirty indoor air. The consequence of breathing in dirty indoor air is more harmful for people who get sick always and are more prone to allergies. It is therefore best to ensure better indoor air that is safe for everybody. Elimination of allergens and dirt in the air is best accomplished by an air purifier. Air purifiers eliminate pollutants and reduces the likelihood of people getting diseases because of air pollutants and viruses.

Buying an Air Cleaner

Consider the look of the device. This aspect is inclusive of the size, portability and visual appeal of an air purifier. Go for units with sizes that are just right for you. You may not want to cramp your home with an air purifier that is almost as huge and bulky as your bedroom. You may check on the portability of the unit so you can take the device to wherever part of the house you want to be. Visual presentation of the device should also match most of your indoor area so it won’t clash with your most adored interior theme.

Evaluate the noise level. Look for a unit that does not cause loud and irritating noises. A good air purifier will not only clean your indoor air, it will not also bother you with noise.

Check out the specifications of the device. You can compare air purifiers by checking the Clean Air Delivery Rating (CADR). A unit with higher CADR has better purification capacity. You should also check the filter specifications because HEPA filter should be able to filter at least 99.97% of airborne allergens of 0.3 micrometers in size. Products marked with "HEPA-type" or "HEPA-like" may not meet this requirement. Check also the frequency of filter replacement because the filter itself is expensive and frequent filter replacements may become too costly and burdensome.

Air purifier is not just a luxurious item that your family can live without. In places where dusts, smokes and other allergens can have health implications, air purifiers are the best option to protect yourself from the harm of dirty indoor air.
