When a young one learns responsibility, he is also learning the skill of respecting oneself and others, self preservation, as well as dedication and pride in themselves. Parents often think that teaching a child responsibility is done by simply giving the child chores, and providing discipline when chores are not completed. This is simply not the case. When the child learns to be responsible it means he will know how to respect oneself and another, self-preservation, dedication and to have pride for themselves. By giving the child chores and, if the child doesn't complete these chores, punishment, most parents think this the way to teach a child responsibility, which is not.
